WHAT MAKES A TOILET WORTH OVER $5000.00 – When designing bathroom spaces in Corona del Mar and Newport Beach, we make all the selections for our clients. The one thing we, at SKD Studios, ask our clients to select on their own is the toilet. Much like artwork, a toilet is very personal. Everyone has a thought and everyone has a preference. We usually send them over to Pirch in Costa Mesa and have them look around. When it comes to toilets you can buy a nice one from Lowes or Home Depot for around $200 or you can go all out with a seated heat, self flushing, nightlight from Toto. It is very clear that not all toilets are created equally. (or priced equally for that matter) I was very curious as to why the best selling toilet was the most expensive. I went over to the Toto website to find out.
Here is what I found.
From the Toto Website: Our founder, Kazuchika Okura, had a vision more than one hundred years ago in 1912, before the concept of public sewage systems was widespread in Japan. After seeing more advanced systems overseas, he was moved to establish a ceramic sanitary ware laboratory to develop healthier and cleaner living spaces.
In 1917, Okura founded Toyo Toki K.K. (which became known as TOTO LTD.) to supply the market with these products. TOTO was founded on a commitment to provide a comfortable living space for people, while always protecting the planet and its water.
Japan’s rich artistic heritage in pottery and porcelain is alive in every TOTO product we create today. Throughout our expansion worldwide, TOTO has remained true to the Japanese traditions that have shaped our Company Motto and Philosophy.

Some of the favorites from Toto are:
The Aquia Dual-Flush
Innovative and highly efficient, this model features our Dual-Max flushing system, which gives you two different levels of water to flush with. Unlike most similar systems, Dual-Max doesn’t sacrifice any performance in the interest of conservation.
Drake II 1G
This high-efficiency toilet features exclusive TOTO Double Cyclone technology, which harnesses the power of gravity and combines it with significant centrifugal force to spin away just about anything in the toilet bowl, quickly and efficiently. The dual-nozzle propulsion system allows more water to be directed to the siphon for a more powerful flush.
Eco Ultramax
This sleek, elegantly simple toilet uses the TOTO E-Max Flushing System to quickly flush 1.28 gallons through the bowl. E-Max is based on another highly effective TOTO flushing innovation, so it always provides a consistent, powerful flush. – See more at: http://www.totousa.com/building-better-toilet#sthash.yObZmGtp.dpuf
I think if your doing a master bathroom remodel in Corona del Mar, Newport Beach, Newport Coast or anywhere else in the country, you should seriously consider a small (or large) splurge on a beautiful, innovative toto toilet!
