Hello SKD’ers!

Today we are going to educate on all the different types of countertops that are out there. It can become very overwhelming choosing the right top for your space. There are so many to choose from, and there are many that stand by just one. We want to inform you about all of the options because we LOVE them all and believe there is a place for every top. There are also several misconceptions that we want to clear up about the different types of countertops out there. So here is the ultimate countertop guide. ENJOY!

Granite –
Currently one of, if not, the most popular countertop because of its durability and natural beauty. Granite comes in hundreds of different options and price-points. There are exotic granites (an SKD favorite) that showcase amazing colors and movements within the stone. Here is an example of a current ‘standard’ granite and then an exotic granite.

Marble-

Marble is formed from limestone, superheated to form its crystalline structure. There are numerous colors and patterns. This stone is considered to be forever ‘timeless’, always displaying classic beauty and elegance. It can be used anywhere, just like granite. If you take care of it and use it well, it will be a lifetime showstopper. The Calcutta Gold (below) is one of the most striking and timeless stones!

Limestone-
Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed largely of the minerals calcite and aragonite, which are different crystal forms of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). Most limestone is composed of skeletal fragments of marine organisms such as coral or foraminifera.Limestone is an easygoing stone formed at the bottom of the sea as sediment settles and its weight eventually pressurizes into a solid surface.
It is a very porous stone, therefore it may not be for everyone.

Part 2 will provide more of the most beautiful natural stones and materials that make countertops the beauteous works of art that they are today.
