SKD Studios…We love interior design and anything related to it. I love the use of colors in my design plans, I am a truly monochromatic neutral girl at heart but I love to add in pops of color. My sister’s latest obsession is ORANGE. She keeps telling me she loves the color and wants to use it in her home design but just doesn’t know where to start.
One of the things to remember when adding colors is to use them in a wow and not in an overwhelming way. Orange is a pretty vibrant color and could be a little too much if not used correctly. Remember to use your color wheel. Opposite colors attract so orange and turquoise or orange and blues look great together. They compliment one another and have a pleasing look.
Another fun fact about orange is it’s relationship to the chakras. My sister is also into chakra’s and I am learning from her how important colors are to our well being. The second Chakra (Sacral Chakra) is associated with the color orange. This chakra often offers us the opportunity to lessen our “control issues” and find a balance in our lives, teaching us to recognize that acceptance and rejection are not the only options in our relationships. The process of making changes in our life stream through our personal choices is a product of second chakra energy. A well-functioning second chakra helps one to maintain a healthy yin-yang existence.
While designing with my sister has it’s own set of challenges, we are determined to incorporate orange into her design scheme. We are going to start with some pillows and add other pops through natural flowers and some amazing coral pieces we found while shopping in Orange County.
Make sure to visit our website at www.skdstudios.com for more information and inspiration on adding colors to your decor. Our new studio located at 3415 Newport Blvd in Newport Beach will have some great orange decorative accessories if you are daring enough to give it a try.
