Southern Maryland Kitchen and Bath Interior Design by SKD Studios-Small Room Solutions-Mirrors!

It is still only just the beginning of a wonderful new year, and I am sure that you all have been thinking about which projects you want to start with your home this year. If you are like many others, there is always that one–or two rooms in your home that you wish was just a bit bigger. Don’t worry, all hope is not lost for that space! We at SKD have a few tricks up our sleeves to help you add some depth to your beloved room! One of the quickest, easiest ways to make a small room look bigger is to use mirrors!

Did you notice the mirror backsplash in this kitchen?

Mirrors can open up a space and make it feel larger and lighter. Have you ever wondered why that is? Well, the answer actually turns out to be pretty scientific. It all has to do with how your eyes perceive light. Generally, the more light that you can see, the bigger a space looks. In addition to creating a reflection of the room itself, mirrors also reflect light very well and therefore bring more light into your room!
To open up a small space, add a mirror to reflect natural sunlight or lamp light. You can have just one large floor mirror propped up against a wall, or hang many smaller framed mirrors in a cluster on an open wall. Any reflective material can brighten up your space and make it feel larger than it would without the extra reflected light.
